Services for Alta Laverne Kornegay, 85, of Brownfield will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Alta passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 in Brownfield. She was born June 11, 1923 in Winters, Texas to Joe and Ruby Awalt. She graduated from Winters High School in 1940. Alta married Adrian R. Kornegay on January 25, 1941 in Abilene, TX. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. They moved to O'Donnell in 1946, to Levelland in 1952 and to Brownfield in 1961. She was employed with Walmart for 7 years prior to her retirement. Alta was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is also preceded in death by 5 brothers and a sister.
Alta is survived by two daughters, Peggy Howell and husband Bobby and Kathy Brock and husband Rickey of Brownfield; a sister, Loretta Gravell of San Angelo; a brother, Dalvin Awalt of Midland; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
