Betty was born to Thomas J. and Vera Hillis on April 7, 1936 at home near Hermleigh, Texas. She grew up on the family farm, was active in the 4-H program and graduated from Hermleigh High School in 1954. Betty is survived by her two sisters Alma Waterman and Fern Butler who both reside in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Hillis and her brother T.J. She met her husband Donald W. Moore shortly afterward, and they were married on October 3, 1958 in Brownfield where they raised their children and were active in the community. She and Don were married for over 45 years until he preceded her in death in 2004.

Bettys great joys in life included her relationships with family, friends, and students and serving the community. She was an educator for 40 years and taught school at Union and Dawson Schools. She received her Masters in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University in 1991. She believed in helping children develop a lifelong love of learning, and she was profoundly fulfilled by her work with students in the classroom. Betty was also a great seamstress, cook and gardener. Betty was active in the community as a volunteer, officer and board member for several organizations including Brownfield United Methodist Church, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Texas State Teachers Association, Terry County Retired Teachers Association and Friendship FHC.
