Services for Billie Gene Swaringen, 83, of Brownfield will be held 2pm Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating.

There will be a family visitation at Brownfield Funeral Home Friday, June 7, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm.

Billie passed away Wednesday, June 05, 2013 in Lubbock. He was born November 6, 1929 to James A. and Laura Swaringen in Gilpin. He graduated from Spur High School. He served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 in the United States Army. Billie moved to Brownfield in 1955 from Snyder. He married Helen Margarite Rigsby on May 20, 1956 in Lubbock. Billie owned Brownfield Irrigation Company since 1967. He was a Brownfield Consolidated Independent School Board Member from 1976 to 1980 where he served as president for two years. He was also on the Terry County Memorial Cemetery Board from 1986 to 1996 where he served as chairman for five years, and the Terry County Appraisal District Board starting in the early 1980’s. Billie was also nominated Terry County Citizen of the Year in 1988. Billie is preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Laura Swaringen, and 8 brothers and sisters.

Billie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Swaringen, of Brownfield; two sons, Mike Swaringen and wife Marla of Brownfield, David Swaringen and wife, Jeanette, of Brownfield; one daughter, Donna Hartman and husband, Jeff, of Thornton, CO; 11 grandchildren, Caleb Swaringen and wife, Christy, of McAllen, Lauren Swaringen of Lubbock, Timothy Swaringen and wife Rebekah of Brownfield, Seth Swaringen of Lubbock, Caitlin Swaringen of Lubbock, Jacob Hartman of Thornton, CO, Adam Hartman of Thornton, CO, Ben Hartman of Thornton, CO, Brad Swaringen of Lubbock, Tanner Swaringen of Lubbock, Rider Jefferies of Brownfield; one great- grandchild, Nate Swaringen of McAllen; two brothers, Pete Swaringen of Ft. Worth, Kenneth Swaringen of Ft. Worth; one sister, Melva Rigsby and husband, Jabez of San Antonio.
