Services for Herbert Lee Nelson, Jr., 80, formerly of Levelland will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Levelland First Christian Church with Rev. Jay Macha officiating. Burial will follow in Anton Cemetery in Anton, TX. under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Herb passed away Sunday, November 4, 2007 in Lubbock. He was born February 15, 1927 in Garland, TX. to Herbert Lee and Georgie Wallace Nelson. He and his family moved to Anton in 1940. He graduated from Anton High School in 1944. He then attended Texas Tech University before entering the Navy. He served on the USS Pensacola during WWII. Herb married Maxine Barbee, March 2, 1956 in Anton. They moved to Levelland in 1956. He owned and operated Nelson Construction for over 30 years. Herb was a farmer at heart. He began farming after retiring from his construction business. He was a member of the VFW. He was an elder and member of the Levelland First Christian Church, where he served as chairman of the board for 15 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emma Lee Ledbetter. Pallbearers will be Herb's nephews.

Herb is survived by the love of his life, Maxine of Lubbock; 3 daughters, Giovanna Isaacs and husband Tony of Brownfield, Sheryl Russell and husband Ricky of Wolfforth and Tracy Davis of Wolfforth; a sister, Dorothy Dixon of Lubbock; 9 grandchildren, Ashley & Seth Martinez of Dallas, Stacy Russell of Dallas, Sheridan Isaacs and Kyle Isaacs of Lubbock, Holly Isaacs of Canyon, Marine LCPL David McDonnell currently deployed in Iraq, Justin Nelson and Sarah Davis of Wolfforth; 1 great grandson, Benjamin Martinez of Dallas.
