Services for J. A. “Jake” Benson, 85, of Meadow will be 2 pm Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Meadow Church of Christ with Bob Dupont officiating. Interment will follow in Meadow Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Jake passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 in Brownfield.
He was born February 14, 1922 in Tahoka, Texas to Hervey William and Ruth Benson. He attended Tahoka School. He was a WWII Army Veteran receiving a Purple Heart. He moved to Terry County in 1940. He married Thelma Overman, February 20, 1943 in Lubbock. He was on the Board of Directors for the Cotton Producers Gin, a member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV. He formerly served on the Meadow City Council. Jake retired from farming in 1978. He was a member of Meadow Church of Christ.
Jake is survived by his wife Thelma of Meadow; two daughters, Linda Trimmier of Uvalde and Barbara Wheeler and husband Wayne of Plainview; a brother, Bill Benson of Bullard; a sister, JoAnn McNiel of Tahoka; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
