J.W. Richardson

A Celebration of life for J.W. Richardson, 79, of Lubbock will be at 2pm, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church at 3814 130th Street, Lubbock with Pastor Bob Field officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home in Bowie, Texas at 11am, Thursday in Salona Cemetery.

There will be a family visitation at Brownfield Funeral Home on Monday from 5-7pm.

J.W. passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 in Lubbock. He was born January 23, 1933 in Bowie to Edgar and Olivia “Tootsie” (Brigance) Richardson. He moved with his parents to Brownfield in 1934. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1950 and then attended Draughon’s Business College. J.W. married Alene Curtis of Meadow in 1959. He was a Sergeant in the Adjutant General Corps of the U.S. Army from 53-55 where he served as a Court Reporter and Section Chief of the 30th Infantry Regiment Legal Section. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion and a VFW Supporter. J.W. had been an automobile salesman since 1955, selling Fords for 12 years and had been a salesman for Scoggin-Dickey from 1967-2010. He was named the Buick Dallas Zone top salesman in 1974, 1975 and named in the top two per cent of the salesmen in the Dallas Zone in 1977. He enjoyed helping others with their transportation needs and estimated throughout his 55 years in car and truck sales he had sold approximately 7,000 vehicles. J.W. loved fishing and was an avid gardener. He was a photographer, a licensed Real Estate Broker and member of the First Presbyterian Church.

J.W. is survived by his wife Alene of Lubbock; a sister, Bobbie Nell Cooper and husband Buzz of Brownfield; a niece, Suzanne Stewart and husband Jay of Lubbock; a nephew, Monty Jay Cooper and wife Jolie of Sedona, AZ; 4 great nieces, Shayla and Katelyn Stewart of Lubbock and Whitney and Savanah Cooper of Sedona, AZ.
