James Clevis Chambers

February 2, 1917 — March 7, 2010

James Clevis Chambers, 93, of Brownfield passed into the arms of God on Sunday evening March 7, 2010, at his home.

Services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Brownfield First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Land officiating. Interment will be in Terry County memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Clevis was born on February 2, 1917 in Rush Springs, OK to Mack and Ruby Chambers. He was the 2nd of eight children. He and Clover Barton married on December 19, 1939. She preceded him to Heaven on October 7, 2009. Clevis at age 8 and his family first came to Terry County in 1925 to help harvest cotton. After a short time in California they returned to Brownfield in 1927 to live. He retired after 50 years of farming. Clevis enjoyed blue grass and fiddle music. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Clevis is survived by 3 sons, Buster and wife Nancy of Morton, Jimmy and wife Becky of Brownfield and Dr. Ron Chambers of Savoy, IL; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a sister, Doris Gannon of Ft. Worth; 2 brothers, Carl Chambers and wife Bonnie of Odessa and Claude Chambers and wife June of Austin; numerous nieces and nephews; very special caregivers, Bryan and Gloria Chambers.

Those welcoming him home were the love of his life, Clover; his parents; sisters, Cleo Barton and Louise Luker; brothers, Clifford and Cecil; great grandson, Dylan Thomas.
