Janice Reaves

February 6, 1943 — October 24, 2020

Janice Sue Reaves, 77, entered into her heavenly home on Saturday, October 24, 2020. She passed peacefully while at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Waxahachie, Texas after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Janice was born on February 6, 1943, in Brownfield, Texas to Wayne Preston Hanson and Lera Pearl Hanson.  She attended Brownfield schools and graduated in 1961. After graduating from Brownfield High School Janice attended Draughon’s Business College. She married Bonny Ray (Joe) Reaves on November 3, 1961, at the Church of God in Brownfield. She worked for GTE in Brownfield for four years. While living in Brownfield, Janice and Joe were blessed with two children, Serena and Stanley Reaves.

In 1970 the family moved to Seminole, Texas where Joe worked for Marion Bowers Farms. While living on the farm Janice loved growing a garden and harvesting the fresh vegetables with her mom, Lera. In 1971, Janice began working for the Sears Catalog Store and she continued working for Sears for 37 years. During her tenure with Sears, she worked for nine different managers at four different locations in Hobbs. In 2011 Janice began working for Lea Regional Hospital in Medical Records. She worked there for 7 ½ years until failing health forced her to resign.

Janice loved yardwork, especially planting and growing beautiful flowers. She would often come home from work and immediately begin pursuing her favorite hobby. She loved her many varieties of Iris. Janice had a very giving heart and she enjoyed blessing her children and grandchildren with her many garage sale finds. She loved seeing new pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visited them as much as possible. Janice treasured her time with family and friends.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Serena, and her husband Roger, of Waxahachie, Texas; son, Stanley and wife Le’Ann of Eunice, New Mexico. 5 grandchildren: Brad Reston and his wife Kirstie of Rowlett, Texas; Blaine Reston and his wife Christian of Hobart, Oklahoma; Bailey Crim and her husband Cody of Midlothian, Texas; Tyler Reaves of Tuscon, Arizona and Sarah Reaves of Eunice, New Mexico. 4 great-grandchildren: Keegan Reston, Emry Reston, and Cole and Clay Reston; sister-in-law, Susan Hanson of Midland, TX; brother-in-law, Lee Reaves and wife Claudia of Moultonborough, NH; sister-in-law, Grace Todd and husband Charles of Carrolton, GA; brother-in-law Aaron Reaves and wife Rebecca of Rock Springs, GA, and sister-in-law, Jewel Reaves of Vidalia, GA.  She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews, cousins and a number of caring friends.

Janice loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in her last days she looked forward to being reunited with her friends and family in heaven.
