-Plano, TX. Joyce Evelyn Dungan Jones passed away peacefully November 20, 2010. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am Thursday, December 2 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.
Visitation with family will take place at Brownfield Funeral Home preceding the service, beginning at 9:00am. Family visitation will continue following the service.
Joyce was born in Lubbock, TX to Archie F. and Mattie Dungan in 1928. Her father farmed and then worked Santa Fe Railroad. She lived the early part of her life in Sundown, Lubbock, Ropesville, Happy, Plainview, and Abernathy before settling in Brownfield, TX in 1941. She graduated from Brownfield High School in 1945 and attended Texas Technological College in Lubbock. Joyce married her High School sweetheart, Sammy Barton Jones, on June 3, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Brownfield. Following Sammy’s graduation from Texas Tech, they made Brownfield their home for 52 years where Joyce was actively involved with Sammy’s family business, Jones Theatres, Inc., the First United Presbyterian Church, and many other community functions. In 2002, Sammy and Joyce moved to Plano, TX to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Sammy Jones, of Plano, TX; her son, Tom Jones and wife Brenda of Plano, TX; her daughter, Tracy Blair and husband Craig of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Amanda Fagala and husband Jeff of San Antonio, TX; grandson Kevin Jones of Frisco, TX; step grandchildren, Ashley Jackson and husband Greg of Lubbock, TX, Andrea and Nickolas Blair of Haslet, TX; and great grandsons Drew, Zach, and Trent Fagala. She is also survived by her brother, Archie Franklyn Dungan, Jr. of Brownfield, TX. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Mattie Dungan.
