Lela Z. Merritt

Lela Z. Merritt, 91, of Brownfield passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Lubbock. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Lawayne Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Lela was born on September 27, 1915 in Weathorford, Texas to Harvey and Mary Durham. She moved with her family to Brownfield in 1924. She attended schools in the Harmony Community. She married Joe A. Merritt on March 8, 1948 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1988. She was a member of the Church of the Living God. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Rice and her husband Roy of Stamford, 2 Granddaughters; Crystal Melcher and her husband Jeff of Lubbock, and Deidra Baker and her husband Chance of Wellman, 6 Great Grandchildren; Desiree Melcher, Brittany Melcher, Ryan Melcher, Tristan Baker, Harlee Baker, and Dylan Baker, 2 sisters; Delphia Davis of Hart and Rosetta Henderson of Brownfield, and several nieces and nephews.
