Memorial services for Leon Speed, 68, of Brownfield will be at 2pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Reynolds officiating. Services will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Leon passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Lubbock. He was born January 27, 1944 to Barney and Grace Davis Speed in Brownfield. He grew up and attended Brownfield schools. Leon started farming in the Tokio Community and also attended South Plains College. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1969. Leon farmed in Tokio, Gomez, and south Brownfield for 49 years. He served 13 years on the Terry County Co-Op Gin Board as Director and President. He also managed his Self Storage business and previously owned the Classic Care Car Wash. Leon is preceded in death by his parents.
Leon is survived by a daughter, Leanne Wright and husband Reese of Lubbock; 2 grandchildren, Bryson and Madison Wright of Lubbock; a brother, Merlin Speed and his wife Janie of Lubbock.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Cal Farley’s Boy’s Ranch, P O Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
