Lois Eubank McWherter
January 19, 1909 — March 17, 2010
Lois Eubank McWherter, a Brownfield pioneer, died Thursday, March 17, 2010 at the age of 101. Her services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Lois' family will meet at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home for visitation. She will be in state for viewing at the funeral home from 12-8pm Sunday.
Lois was born in a 1/2 dug out in Bronco, territory of New Mexico, on January 19, 1909 to Joseph Hamilton Eubank and Irene Cromartie Eubank. Shortly after her birth, Lois and the Eubank family moved to Brownfield, where eventually there were 5 boys and 3 girls in the family; John Dick, Scott, Hamilton, Bill, Anna Marie, Joe, Lois and Vivien. There were also 3 other children who died in childhood or at birth. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She was a pioneer business woman as the owner of the Best Yet Cafe, and it was there that she met Jesse McWherter, whom she married April 25, 1943.
Lois is survived by her four children, Barbara Collier and her husband Carrol of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Eddie Taylor and his wife Martha of Lubbock, Texas, Shaeron Moorhead and her husband Mike of Dallas, Texas and Panze Roberts and her husband David of Charlotte, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
After Jesse's death in 1975, she was an able manager of the McWherter farms; she was always a wonderful cook, a gifted seamstress, a talented craftswoman, a prolific gardener and a very loving mother. For many years she was a member of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church, Brownfield. One of Lois' joys was entertaining friends and family; our mother was much loved and will be greatly missed.
The McWherter family is very grateful to Janie Flores, Gabriela Martinez, Tomasa Longoria, Nelda Longoria, Elvira Gallegos, Josie Gomez, Johnny and Barbara Willis for their loving care and friendship during Mother's last journey.
