Luther Alvin Bourn, 82, of Brownfield passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in Lubbock.

Memorial services will be held at 2pm, Monday, February 28, 2011 at Brownfield First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Luther will be in state from 12noon-8pm Sunday.

Luther was born August 4, 1928 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to James Monroe and Verda Mae Bourn. He was a 1946 graduate of Calhoun High School, Calhoun, Arkansas and a 1953 graduate of Southern State College, Magnolia, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas. He was a Army Air Force Veteran serving from 1946-1949. Luther married the former Judy Griffin on February 12, 1955 in Brownfield. He worked with Little League, Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Masonic Lodge #903. In 1997 he retired from the U.S. Postal service with 41 years of service. He was a long time Presbyterian, serving in various leadership capacities. In 2006 he became a member of First United Methodist Church. Luther is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Luther is survived by his wife, Judy of Brownfield; a son, Hadyn Bourn and his wife Loretta of Houston; a daughter, Meg Bourn of Dallas; a granddaughter, Gabi Bourn of Houston; a brother, Bill Bourn of Haughton, LA; two sisters, Mary Downs of Magnolia, Ark. and Frances Murphy of McNeil, Ark.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and care given to Luther during his illness by the Tuter Pevey family, Sandy Visage and the Hospice of the South Plains.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Scottish Rite Learning Center of West Texas, P.O.Box 10135, Lubbock, Texas 79408 or your favorite charity.
