Services for Mildred Osborn Shirley, 84, of Lubbock will be at 11am, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownfield. Dr. Stan Blevins and Beau Lamb will be officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30pm, in the Lovington Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Mildred stepped into glory early Sunday morning, September 2, 2012 in Lubbock. She was born December 17, 1927 in Roswell, NM to Sam and Loveta (Swann) McKinstry. She spent her youth on the family farm near Hagerman, NM with her parents and two sisters, Sammy and Jean. She married Kenneth Osborn on December 28, 1947 at First Presbyterian Church in Hagerman and then moved to Chicago where Kenneth was in optometry school at the University of Illinois. Mildred had been a teller at the bank in Hagerman and continued that career in Chicago.

Kenneth and Mildred moved to Hobbs in 1949 where Kenneth opened his first optometry practice. Becky was born while they lived in Hobbs. They moved to Lovington in 1952 where they completed their family with the births of Beth, Steve and Kenni.

Her passion for and love of flowers was exhibited when they purchased Lovington Floral Arts. Mildred and Kenneth’s love and devotion for each other led them to work side by side in the flower shop and his optometric practice until their retirement in 1994.

They also enjoyed hobbies together. China painting, the art of eggery and raising over a hundred varieties of iris were their favorites. The greatest joy through the years was raising their children in a Christian home while attending Jackson Avenue Baptist Church. Their passion was the music ministry at JABC.

After Kenneth’s passing in 1995, she relocated to Granbury, Texas where she met and married Brooke Shirley. They enjoyed seven wonderful years together before his passing in 2009. While there she and Brooke enjoyed being a part of the Seekers Sunday School Class at Lakeside Baptist Church.

In May of 2010 Mildred moved to Raider Ranch retirement center in Lubbock, Texas to be near more of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was delighted that so many in her family visited her often.

Mildred is survived by four children, Becky Walker and husband Barry of Portales, NM, Beth Askew of Granbury, TX, Steve Osborn and wife Joy of Brownfield, TX, and Kenni Fewin and husband Gary of Woodward, OK; a sister Jean Allison of Lubbock, TX, and sister-in-law Nancy Bish and husband Don of Roswell, NM; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home of Portales or First Baptist Church of Santa Rosa, NM.
