Ray Bergara, 85, of Brownfield passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Services will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 23, 2007 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon George Holguin officiating. Interment will follow at Brownfield Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Ray was born on April 10, 1922 in Pearsall, TX to Andreas and Torivia Bergara. He married Mary Ybarra in 1947. Mary preceded him in death Jan. 13, 2006. They moved to Brownfield in the 50's. He had previously served as Deputy Sheriff in Brownfield. He was very patriotic and pro voting. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He was also preceded in death by his son Sam Bergara on June 1, 1988.
He is survived by 5 sons, Ray Bergara, Jr. of Houston, Ruben Bergara of San Angelo, Rudy Bergara of Brownfield, Richard Bergara of Brownfield, and Raymond Bergara of Canyon; 3 daughters, Sylvia Vasquez of LaPorte, Selma Reyes of Lubbock, and Sonia Cruz of Brownfield; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
