Rita Mae Cheek Snodgrass

Services for Rita Snodgrass, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2012. A Celebration of Life services will be held at Plains First Baptist Church at 1pm Saturday, July 7, 2012 with Rev. Rick Doyle officiating. Interment will follow in Plains Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm at Brownfield Funeral Home on Friday, July 6, 2012

Rita was born on May 31, 1917 to Joseph Manuel and Della Lucretia Cheek in Stanford. She moved to Tokio Communtiy in 1923 with her parents, sisters Marie (Toad) Snodgrass, Louise (Hank) Goehry and her brother Robert (Bette) Cheek. Rita attended Harris and Plains schools. Rita married Jesse Hugh Snodgrass on January 11, 1936 in Brownfield; they continued to live in Tokio Community until 2002 before moving to Lubbock. Jesse preceded her in death in 2005. Rita attended the Methodist Church of Plains. She was a member of the Plains Chapter of Eastern Star for 50 years, a member of Texas Extension Home Demonstration Club for 75 years and delivered mail for a rural route in the Tokio Community for over 30 years. Rita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed for her delightful sense of humor, positive outlook on life, and huge capacity for love.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Hugh Snodgrass and parents, Joseph and Della Cheek; sisters, Marie (Toad) Snodgrass, Louise (Hank) Goehry and a brother Robert (Bette) Cheek.

Rita is survived by her son, Carter Snodgrass and his wife Dianne of Lubbock; 3 daughters, Roberta Patterson of Lubbock, Della Saich and her husband Gordon of Placerville, CA, Rita Goodsell and her husband Gary of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to your favorite charity.

The family gives special thanks to Stacey and Loretta of Interim Hospice, and Sarah Young for their loving care.
