Robert Leo Bailey

A memorial service honoring the life of Robert Leo (Bob) Bailey, 93, of Brownfield will be held at 2P.M. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Brownfield with Dr. Carl Moman officiating. Dr. Donovan Martin, grandson-in-law, of Lubbock will assist.

Mr. Bailey was born January 1, 1919 in Sperry, Oklahoma to Frank and Elma Bailey. He went home to be with the Lord January 29, 2011 at his home in Brownfield.

He married the love of his life, Thelma Parks, January 6, 1940 in Pampa, Texas. He played semi-professional baseball for the Pampa Oilers, San Diego Padres and several other teams. Mr. Bailey worked for Amoco for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He loved to play golf and enjoyed regaling his family with many stories from his “grand and glorious” life. He was an avid reader and kept a journal for many years. Mr. Bailey loved the Lord and read his Bible daily, reading it through 45 times. He served as a deacon in Baptist churches in Pampa, Knox City, Rule and Brownfield, Texas. He enjoyed travel and took his family on many wonderful camping trips. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey spent many summers in Ruidoso, enjoying their RV and the many friends they made there.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael Quentin, in 1999, a grandson, Rus Bailey, in 2001, and by two brothers, Lowell and Jack.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Pam Schonerstedt and her husband, Glen, of Levelland, Judy Reeves of Brownfield, Kathy Tyler and her husband, Bruce, of Brownfield, a sister, Beth Bowman of Pampa, and a daughter-in-law, Linda LeFevre of Wylie.

He was PaPaw to eleven grandchildren and Big Pa to 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild.

A visitation with the family is scheduled for 6:30 pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2011 in Weber Hall at the First United Methodist Church, 1004 E. Broadway in Brownfield.
