Funeral Service for Alton Earl McGinty will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Plains First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating and Rev. Patrick Hamilton assisting. Interment will follow at Yoakum County Cemetery - Plains, under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Alton was born on March 10, 1950, to Algae and Lois McGinty in Lubbock, TX. He passed away on January 1, 2026, at the age of 75.
Alton's journey through life was marked by love and compassion. He married the love of his life, Sharon "Sheri" Lee Gray, on June 3, 1972, at the First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Together, they celebrated 53 years filled with laughter, joy, and unwavering support for one another. Alton was a wonderful father to his children, and he loved his grandchildren with all his heart. His warm-hearted nature made an indelible impact on all fortunate enough to know him.
Professionally, Alton was a dedicated lease pumper with Oxy Petroleum, a role that reflected his commitment to the oil industry and the community he served. A proud member of the First Baptist Church in Plains, he also poured his time and energy into the Masonic Lodge, where he served as a District Deputy. His connection with the Masonic community was a source of pride for him, and he was actively involved in both the Plains and Denver City lodges.
Outside of work and service, Alton was an avid hunter and golf enthusiast. He found joy in the great outdoors and cherished the time spent hitting the links. Additionally, he was a devoted supporter of the local sports teams, especially those of Plains ISD, always ready to cheer them on with enthusiasm.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Algae and Lois McGinty; a sister, Sylvia Cayce; and a brother, Kenneth Elwood McGinty. He is survived by his wife, Sheri McGinty; 3 sons, James Alton (Karry) McGinty, Patrick Lee (Adriana) McGinty, and Christopher Gray McGinty; sister, Kathleen McGinty; 6 grandchildren, Hannah Leigh, Emma Marie, Baylee Elizabeth, Parker Lee, Grayson James, and Maggie Rose McGinty.
