Barbara Sue Fails

December 17, 1937 — June 12, 2023

A celebration of the life of Barbara Fails will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:00 am with a graveside service at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. She was ready to see Jesus.

Barbara was born December 17, 1937, in Tahoka, Texas. She was the first of four children born to Leon Jefferson Fails and Anneboyd Bentley Fails.

She attended elementary school in Tahoka, Texas, half of her freshman year at Midland High School in Midland, Texas, and the remaining high school years at Wellman High School, graduating in 1956. Barbara was voted all-school favorite. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.

Barbara grew up on cotton farms in Tahoka, Texas, and Wellman, Texas. Upon graduation from Wellman High, Barbara attended Texas Tech to pursue a degree in education. Upon graduation from Texas Tech, she began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher at Whitharrel ISD, then briefly on to Dimmitt ISD, and then completing her first-grade teaching career at Soccor ISD in El Paso, Texas, retiring after 30-something years. She loved her many, many students.

She loved her God and her church. She loved her family. She loved Christmas celebrations and baking fruit cakes, peanut patties, divinity fudge, and gingerbread cookies. She loved Wellman's annual 4th of July celebrations. She loved many vacations with her brother and his wife to Alaska, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., and beautiful Texas. She loved the United States Marine Corp, the United States Navy, and MacArthur's United States Army Corp. She loved a healthy Stock Market and a good ripe Terry County watermelon.

Barbara is survived by her brother Leon Fails, Jr., and his wife Karen of El Paso; her sister Elizabeth Rowden and her husband Lewayne of Wellman; nephews Jeff Fails (Coryn), J Rowden (Stacy), Scott Rowden (Julie), Wade Rowden (Shanna), Sean Rowden (Karolen), Bryan Fails (Amanda); and niece Terri Fails Jordan (Robert).

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Anneboyd and Leon Fails, Sr.; and brother Michael Fails.

She faithfully cared for her mother until her passing in 2005. Barbara was a beautiful Christian soul. Loving, kind, giving, and intelligent.
