Bobby Knight, born June 20, 1937, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Oscar and Hattie Knight, passed away on October 27, 2026, after living a full and vibrant life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and lasting friendships. His strong faith and personal relationship with God were an important part of his life, providing a foundation that carried him through the years and shaped the way he lived.

Bobby graduated from college in 1962 and moved to California to begin his career with BJ Hughes. In 1963, he was transferred to Farmington, New Mexico, where he met the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Whittaker. They married on June 13, 1964, beginning a partnership that would span nearly 48 years. After living in Albuquerque, Midland, and New Orleans, they settled in Brownfield, Texas, where their daughter, Amy, was born in 1967.

Bobby spent his career in the oilfield, a close second to his love for family and friends. Through hard work, determination, and an entrepreneurial spirit, he built a company from the ground up that became fondly known as TST—“Tomorrow’s Service Today.” In 1993, to the surprise of many, Bobby sold his business and embraced retirement alongside Patty. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Ruidoso, spending time at Lake LBJ, visiting their grandchildren in Dallas, and heading wherever Patty decided they were going next.

Following Patty’s passing in 2012, Bobby continued life on his own, holding close the memories they had made together. Around 2018, he returned to the working world alongside his good friend Matt Adams. Their friendship and work together continued until Matt’s passing in 2021.

Bobby remained active and engaged in life right up until the end. Many days began with coffee and conversation with “the guys”—Coach Campbell, Doc Grant, Wade Bennett, Ed Bell, and numerous others—at Tencha’s, La Hacienda, or The Cub. These daily gatherings were a cherished part of his life, reflecting his love of friendship, good conversation, and staying connected to his community.

Throughout his life, Bobby’s faith and relationship with God remained close to his heart. His faith was an enduring part of who he was and a source of strength throughout his journey. As family and friends celebrate his life, they take comfort in the hope and peace found in his faith and the promise of eternal life.

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patty; his parents, Oscar and Hattie Knight; his brother, Orval; his sisters, Ileda, Lavada, and Nancy; and his brothers-in-law, Bill and Scrib Whittaker.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Rice, and her husband, Ray; his grandsons, Ryan and Cade Appleby; his granddaughter, Morgan Appleby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, independence, enduring friendships, and a life lived on his own terms. He will be remembered for the business he built, the people he loved, the conversations he shared over coffee, and the full, vibrant life he enjoyed until the very end. Above all, he leaves behind the example of a life grounded in faith and the comfort of knowing that his earthly journey has ended, but his eternal life has begun. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
