Funeral services for Charlotte Louise Smith Low, 98, will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Brownfield First United Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Charlotte passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018, in Lubbock. She was born April 23, 1920, in Burkburnett to Bertie Barker and Joseph Dolphus Smith. She graduated from Gladewater High School in 1937 and then attended Texas Womans University, Bish Mathis Business School, and graduated from Texas Tech in 1966.
Charlotte married Henry C. Low on January 31, 1954, in Sundown. They lived in Sundown, Levelland, Brownfield, Hobbs, NM and finally Lubbock. Charlotte worked as a civil servant during WWII in Washington, DC at the Pentagon and also in Longview, Dallas, and El Paso. She taught Business and was a Pep Squad sponsor at Wellman High School and she taught typing, math, history and social studies at Brownfield Middle School.
Charlotte was a lifelong member of Texas State Teachers Association, Terry County Child Welfare Board, Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of Brownfield Rainbow Girls and a member of Brownfield Ladies Golf Association. Charlotte was a member of the Brownfield First United Methodist Church where she was a teacher of the Senior Sunday School Class.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bertie and Joseph Dolphus Smith, sister, Yolanda Smith, and grandson, Michael Low.
Charlotte is survived by her husband; daughters, Julie Combes (Jim), of Brownfield, Dr. Leslie Low (Jennifer), of Flower Mound; son, Chip Low (Tafta), of Hobbs, NM; grandson, Scott Combes of Flower Mound; granddaughter, Taylor Low of Dallas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1004 E. Broadway, Brownfield, TX 79316.
