Frances Taylor Hamm

August 16, 1953 — April 16, 2024

Frances Taylor Hamm, 70, of Lubbock passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She was born August 16, 1953, in Wellington, Texas, to Louise & Buel Taylor. She married the love of her life, Scott Hamm, on November 25, 1977.

Frances spent her early years living in Wellington, San Antonio, and Amarillo. She moved to Brownfield in the 2nd grade and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1971. She attended West Texas State University and graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in Education and Social Studies.

Frances taught school in Lubbock, Brownfield, Loop, and Denver City from 1976-2015. She finished her career as a Testing Coordinator for Denver City High School. She created many long-lasting friendships during her years in education.

Frances and Scott farmed and raised a family in Wellman, Texas. Frances's greatest legacy is her family, and she would be quick to tell you they were her greatest joy. Frances and Scott were blessed with three children, Shane, Sarah, and TyScott.

Frances was one of a kind. All who knew her celebrated her natural candor and fierce loyalty to all those she loved. She was a consummate farm wife and "Mother Earth" serving three hot meals a day and helping with the show animals. She was known to have the ability to re-introduce a lost calf to its mother in the pasture, shoot a troublesome rattlesnake outside of a bathroom window and yet she could easily dazzle everyone with her beauty when the occasion arose. Her talents and grit knew no boundaries.

Frances was a voracious reader-everything from the classics to Agatha Christie to Louise Penny. She made beautiful artwork quilts for her family and friends. She also had an innate ability to repair almost anything.

Frances was a committed animal lover. Her many dogs over the years were a continuous joy of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory; Sarah Hamm Farrell and husband Ryan of College Station, TyScott Hamm and wife Ashley of Lubbock, and Shane Hamm and wife Suzanne of Marble Falls; siblings Karan Armstrong and husband David of Poetry; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her favorite role was that of grandmother, or "Tia" as she was affectionately known, showering her grandchildren with love and baked cakes and pies. She was preceded in death by her parents Buel and Louise Taylor, sister Stacey Pound and her husband, Scott Hamm.

Frances also had many special "heart" friends that where more like family-Gay Bearden, Dan and Glenda Field, and Judy Joplin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Frances's honor be directed to The Friends of the Lubbock Library. They may be contacted by email fol@lubbockfol.org or by calling 806-775-2852.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers at 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas, with Gary Davis officiating. Personal care and interment are under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
