On December 14, 2001, our beautiful boy, Gabriel Elijah Marez, was born in Lubbock, Texas. On November 5, 2023, he departed this world.

Gabriel grew up in Brownfield, Texas, where he was surrounded by people who loved him fiercely. His love for music began at an early age, when he began taking piano lessons under the direction of Mr. Sharp. It was then he would embark on a lifetime journey of music, learning different instruments, including trumpet in band, guitar, bass, and ukulele. Gabriel also loved singing. He had an amazing voice and would often sing at Open Mic events he attended with his dad. From a young age, Gabriel attended live music shows with his mom, as well as, with his Aunt Bethy and Aunt Victoria.  This would become one of his favorite things to do, catching as many of the favorite bands he shared with his Aunt Victoria, who would become his most frequent Concert Buddy.

His playful personality drew others in like a magnet. He possessed a natural curiosity about life, that led him to adventures in music, film, hobbies, travel, and food.

Gabriel was a kind, sweet, gentle soul, with a big heart that loved so purely and deeply. He had an endless compassion and love of animals and cared about, and spoke out for, the rights of every living being. He valued and sought connection, that led him to cherished friendships and to the love of his life, Nayeli. This propelled his desire to see the world become a better, kinder, and safer place for his daughter’s generation.

Gabriel treasured his parents and was his little sister's protector and keeper. Becoming a dad was the proudest, most special moment of his life.

Gabriel is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Monico and Dora Marez; Great-Grandfather, Ruben J. Garcia; Great-Grandmother, Margarita Acevedo; and his Beloved cat, Jack. Those left forever changed by his absence are his Pops, Tony Marez, and his Ma, Nicole Acevedo; little sister, Olivia "Livi" Soto; Soul Mate, Nayeli Herrada and their beautiful daughter, Clementine Lilith Marez; Grandma-Mom (Laurencia) & Grandpa-George Holguin; Grandpa-Dad, Juan Acevedo; Great-Grandmother, "Welita"; Great-Grandfather, Lino Acevedo; Aunt Bethy (Elizabeth) & Uncle Drew Landry; Aunt Victoria Acevedo & Uncle Abe Klassen; Uncle Nuno (Johnny) & Aunt Lisa Acevedo; Uncle Matt & Aunt Jessica Acevedo; Aunt Santos Martinez; Aunt Carol & Uncle Roger Kail; Uncle Monico & Aunt Gloria Marez; Uncle Victor & Aunt Patsy Marez;  many beloved cousins and friends; and his dog, MoJo, and cat, Sashimi.
