Memorial services for Hortencia "Tencha" Alvarado will be held Tuesday July 17, 2018 at 10am at La Primera Iglesia Bautista in Brownfield with Daniel Bernal officiating. There will be services Sunday July 15, 2018 and on Monday July 16, 2018 at Brownfield Funeral Home from 6-8pm. There will be open viewing on both Sunday and Monday from 1pm-8pm.
Hortencia passed away Thursday July 12, 2018 in Brownfield Tx. She was born on May 24, 1950 to Ezequiel and Magdelena Sepeda in Post Texas. She married Policarpio R. Alvarado Jr. on January 6, 1979 in Brownfield. Hortencia worked hard as a Steam Presser since as far back as the 70s when she started for Modern Steam Laundry. Since then she worked for many other local dry cleaners and eventually started working from home for some of her long-time customers.
Hortencia was a very caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. She was a great mom and grandma who always had a home cooked meal and an open door for anyone in need. She will mostly be remembered as the "candy apple woman" and her many bingo outings.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ezequiel and Magdalena Sepeda, her in-laws Policarpio Sr. and Tomasa Alvarado, a son Ricardo Alvarado, a great grandson Gabriel Hernandez and a son in law Rene Nunez. She is survived by her husband Policarpio R Alvarado Jr; 7 children, Debbie Aguero and husband Fernando of Lubbock,David Castillo of Greeley CO, Ashley and Rene Rodriguez, Amanda Nunez and Tralane Kelly, Dangelo Sepeda, Josiah Trujillo all of Brownfield, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 sisters: Olga Aguirre and husband Moses of Greeley CO, Evangelina Cruz of Brownfield, Mary Aguilar of Harlingen, Tomasa Sepeda of Denver CO and Norma Hinojos and husband Carlos of Aurora CO, 4 brothers: Fred Sepeda and wife Mary of Brownfield, Victor Sepeda of Greeley Co, Bobby Sepeda of Denver CO, and Freddy Sepeda of Brownfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
