James William McCan

Services for James William McCan, 78, of Lubbock, TX are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Plains Cemetery with Barry McConal officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Brownfield Funeral Home.

JW McCan, was called to his eternal resting place on December 23, 2020. He entered this world on May 27, 1942, in Brownfield, TX, born to O.C. and Myrtle McCan. He grew up living and working on the Dixon ranch. He graduated from Plains High School in 1961 he started to work for Texas Department of Transportation. He married Beverly Ann Lowrey Janurary 5, 1974. In 1977 he promoted to Gaines County Foreman and moved his family to Seminole, TX. He worked there and retired after 30 years of service. Being a hard worker he shortly returned to work for Seminole ISD in their bus division.

In 2003 they moved to Lubbock to be closer to grandkids. He was determined to make it to all of their events. He was a member of South Plains Church of Christ for many years then moving over to Sunset Church of Christ in the last few years. He was also a shining example of what a true Christian exemplifies. He believed in God, Family, and Friends. He loved to go camping, watch sports of all kinds, and play game nights with friends.

He is survived by wife, Beverly McCan; sister, Dixie Sherrill; daughter, Sonya Elliott and husband, Kirk Elliott; Grandkids, Kyler Elliott and Ashlyn Elliott. He is preceded in death by parents and brother, C.B. McCan.

We understand that during this time of social distancing many will send prayers and condolences from home. If you choose to come celebrate his life with us then please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to J.W.'s favorite charity the Childrens Home of Lubbock.
