A celebration of Jerry Lee Thomas's remarkable life will be announced at a later date. The family appreciates privacy at this time.

    Jerry Lee Thomas, 80, of Brownfield, Texas, peacefully departed from this world on July 31, 2026. He was born on August 25, 1945, in Foreman, Arkansas, to Dover Preston and Betty Jo Thomas. Jerry was a cherished father to his family and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. His family was his heart and he delighted in every moment spent with them.Jerry spent 42 years in public education, serving as a teacher, principal, and administrator for Hobbs Municipal Schools in Hobbs, New Mexico and Brownfield Independent School District. He inspired generations of students, faculty, and staff, and helped to shape the future of education in his communities.

    Jerry's spirit shined brightest at classic car shows and chili cook-offs, where he showed his love for friendly competition and nostalgia for the 1950s and 60s. A truly remarkable storyteller, he had a gift for weaving tales that entertained and inspired all who had the pleasure of listening. Late in life, he even wrote and self-published a collection of autobiographical childhood stories, The Adventures of Buck and Bones.

    Jerry was an unwavering friend, always ready to lend a helping hand and maintain connections that meant so much to him. He spent much of his life serving others, sharing his generosity and compassion by opening up his heart and his wallet for others. Jerry was a true friend, a dedicated husband, and a loving dad and granddad.

    Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, DP and Betty Jo Thomas, and his sisters, Kay Bigbie and Becky Rutenbar. 

    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marlana Thomas; son Jerry Thomas Jr (and wife, Chele); daughter Leigh Anne Crandall (and husband, Stephen); grandsons Jaimen Thomas (and wife, Haley), and Jax Thomas; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Leta Parker and Francie Spence.

    Jerry Lee Thomas will be remembered not just for the life he lived but for the love he gave and the memories he created. May he rest in eternal peace surrounded by the love of his family and friends. 

    In honor of Jerry’s legacy and love for education, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local school districts to support future generations.
