Funeral services for Jose Antonio Retana, 60, of Meadow will be held at 10am Monday, July 27, 2026 at St Anthony’s Catholic Church. Rosary will be held from 5-7 on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel.

Jose was born on July 17, 1966, a gentle soul whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him. He valued education deeply, recognizing its power to change lives and uplift those around him. Jose was no stranger to hard work. He was known to many as a dedicated craftsman—someone who could build a house with both skilled hands and a careful, honest heart, he built a forever home for his family. The land called to him in special ways. Jose found deep peace and endless joy in farming and ranching. He reveled in the quiet rhythms of nature and the satisfaction of a day’s honest work under the sun. Whether tending crops or caring for animals, he committed himself fully, honoring traditions handed down and embracing new challenges with characteristic optimism.

More than anything it was his devotion to family that defined him. He cherished every gathering, every shared meal, and every quiet moment spent together—always radiating warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Jose was preceded in death by his father, Cresenciano Retana Soto; brothers, Sergio Retana Quinones and Abel Retana Quinones and brother-in-law, Armando Gonzalez Parra.

Jose is survived by his wife, Guillermina Herrera Ramirez; mother; Maria Gudalupe Quinones Celis; son, Cesar Retana and wife Martha; daughters, Judith Retana and Maria Retana; brother, Armando Retana Quinones and sisters, Maria Leticia Retana Quinones and Luz Maria Gonzalez.
