Funeral Service for Maria Gonzales will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 16, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father John Ohlig officiating. Viewing will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Brownfield Funeral Home, with Rosary at 6:00 pm.

Maria was born on January 1, 1946, to Hector and Lilia Campos in Monclova Coahuila, Mexico. She passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 80.

Maria will be remembered fondly for her service as a former Brownfield City Council member, where she worked tirelessly to improve her community and advocate for the needs of its residents. As a substitute teacher for the Brownfield Independent School District, she touched the lives of many children, inspiring them with her warmth and encouragement in the classroom. 

An enthusiastic gardener, Maria found peace and fulfillment in caring for her plants, nurturing them as she cared for those around her. She also loved to escape to the peaceful beauty of Colorado, where camping in the mountains brought her joy and calmness. With a talent for crocheting, she created many handmade gifts that will be treasured by her family and friends.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Hector and Lilia Campos and brother, Hector Campos Jr. She is survived by her husband, Geronimo Gonzales Jr.; children, Javier Gonzales (Julie), Teresa Garcia (Pete), Victoria Campos (Cuatemoc), and Gerry Gonzales; grandchildren, Brittnie Gonzales, Tony Gonzales, Victoria Gonzales, Marcos Garcia, Lorena Garcia, Olivia Villapando, Adrian Villalpando, and Allianna Villalpando; great-grandchildren, Leighton, Paislee, Scarlett, Emilia, Aurora, and Kehlani; siblings, Mina Ritz, Sergio Campos (Margarita), Juanita Villarreal (Hector), Ricardo Campos (Ninfa), and Roberto Campos (Irene).
