Marilyn's life and Faith will be held at 2pm Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Brownfield First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 1pm until service time at Brownfield First Baptist Church.

Marilyn Petty Adams was born on October 7, 1930, in Merkel, Texas, to William Byers Petty and Evelyn Hamm Petty. Her family later moved to Abilene, where Marilyn grew up, graduated from Abilene High School, and attended Hardin-Simmons University.

It was during her time at Hardin-Simmons that she met Thomas Lafayette Adams. They married in 1952, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned more than six decades. Marilyn embraced life as a teacher and farmer's wife in Meadow, Texas, where they began their family. In their cherished Meadow home, they were blessed with three children: Angela and twin boys, Matt and Mark. The family later relocated to Brownfield, Texas, which became the heart of their family life.

For more than 20 years, Marilyn shared her heart and wisdom as an elementary and middle school teacher in Brownfield. Her love for her students extended far beyond the classroom, and she remained connected with many of them throughout her life. Marilyn's life was firmly anchored in her faith, and she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Brownfield for 65 years.

Marilyn has been peacefully reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 63 years, Tom, who passed away on October 31, 2015; her beloved grandson, Blake Adams; and her cherished son, Matt, who passed away in 2021.

She leaves behind a rich legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and devotion to family. Her memory will forever be treasured by her two children, Angela Lyn Adams and her husband, Stan, and Mark Lester Adams.

She is also survived by her six adored grandchildren, Abbie Elphick, Luke Adams, Marisa Wilson, Kadyn Wilson, Logan Adams, and Tyler Adams; her two great-grandchildren, Cannon and Hudson Elphick; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, dear friends, neighbors, and her deeply cherished church family.

Marilyn's steadfast faith, generous heart, quick wit, and deep love for people will remain a lasting example to all who knew and loved her.
