Obituary

A graveside service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10 AM at the Terry County Memorial Cemetery, with Christopher Seaton officiating. A visitation will take place at Bromfield Funeral Home on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM, providing an opportunity for loved ones to share stories and comfort one another.

Mary Benton, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Brownfield, Texas. Born on April 5, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, and loved to say she was “straight out of Compton.”

Mary's devotion to her family was the foundation of her life. For 64 years, she was a loving wife to her late husband, William Benton, creating a strong bond that has left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew them. Together, they nurtured a family that will continue to honor their legacy.

Mary had a passion for life that expressed itself creatively, especially in her love for painting and remodeling her home, particularly her kitchen. She had a special affinity for chocolate, a testament to her playful spirit and love for the sweeter things in life.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, William Benton; her parents, Archie, Ruby Conn; her siblings, Don Conn Sr., Patricia Wilkie; and her beloved granddaughter, Ashley Benton.

Mary is survived by her children: Duane Benton, wife, Donna, Sheryl Holcombe husband, Tommy, Angela Pruiett husband, Billy; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever remember her warmth and kindness.

As we remember Mary Benton, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, family, and countless memories that will be cherished for generations to come. She will be deeply missed but always remembered in our hearts.
