Mary Olivia Competio

August 7, 1943 — August 24, 2020

Mary Olivia Competio, a dearly loved wife, mother, and grandma, Momo, and unofficial mom and grandmother to more students in the Wellman school system than she could have realized, passed from this life and into her eternal rest on August 24, 2020, at the age of 77 years and 17 days. She was born on August 7, 1943, to Edward and Susie Hilburn.

She met and married the love of her life, Frank Competio, at the age of 14 and they began to build a family legacy that has spanned generations and will continue to do so. She was no stranger to hard work and she instilled that quality in all of her kids, and made sure that it was passed down to the future generations as well. Together with Frank, she raised 8 children and family get-togethers where the highlight of every season and holiday, with every corner of the house filled with the love and laughter that radiated from within. She was an avid supporter of each and every one of her kids, grandkids, and later on great-grandkids and could oftentimes be found wherever they were competing.  Her dedication didn’t end there, thus earning her the unofficial titles of Mom and Grandma at the Wellman school and her own corner in the Wildcat gym to watch the games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Benny Hilburn; and one son in law, Joe Cavazos.

She is survived by her husband Frank, 3 sons: Frank Jr and wife Fay of Brownfield, Daniel and wife Tina of Lubbock, and Roy of Brownfield; 5 daughters: Lucy Frei and husband Chris of Brownfield, Mary Jiminez and husband Roel of Brownfield, Angie Cavazos of Brownfield, Lusinda of Brownfield, and Nancy Mendieta and husband Jovan of Brownfield; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She is also survived by one brother Louis Hilburn of Caldwell, Tx; and 4 sisters, Mary Ellen Hernandez of Brownfield, Estella Villasenor of Amarillo, TX, Rosa Zuniga of Lubbock, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Visitation at the Brownfield Funeral Home will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, from 6:00 pm –8:00 pm and services are scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2020, at 10:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church.
