Funeral Service for Matilde S. Herrera will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 25, 2025, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Father Peter D'Souza officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home, with Rosary at 6:00 pm.
Matilde was born on March 14, 1939, to Edwardo and Socorro Serbantez in Aspermont, TX. She passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 86.
Matilde married Willie Herrera Sr. on February 19, 1956, and they enjoyed 57 years together. They faced obstacles and challenges in life, raising five boys and a girl, but they loved every moment and lived with happiness and love for each other.
Matilde was a dedicated member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where she enjoyed attending every Sunday until her health prevented her from going. Matilde loved working on the house. Give her a hammer, and she was a carpenter, always thinking about which walls needed to be worked on. Sometimes nothing needed to be done, but she would find something wrong anyway.
Anyone who walked through her door was asked, "Have you eaten?" She always loved cooking for everyone. Tortillas and beans were always on the stove. Nobody left hungry. Matilde loved working in the yard, and she would always get an early morning start. Sewing and crocheting were among her favorite hobbies. She enjoyed making blankets and other items for her kids and grandkids.
Matilda is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Herrera Sr.; sons, Guadalupe Herrera Sr., Willie Herrera Jr., Gilbert Herrera, and Bobby Herrera; daughters, Sally Herrera and Betty Herrera; parents, Edwardo and Socorro Serbantez; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Rudy Herrera and wife Denise, and David Herrera; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
