Minnie Cortez

Services for Minnie Flores Cortez, 83, of Brownfield will be held at 10 am Friday, February 7, 2020, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Joe Kochuparambil officiating.

Rosary will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Minnie passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020. She was born on August 13, 1936, in Weslaco, TX to Manuela and Carlos Flores.

Minnie had a strong Catholic faith and as a single parent worked hard to provide for her family. Minnie loved music, dancing, and bingo. She worked at Brownfield Nursing Home and Texas Tech University in housekeeping and retired in 1995 after 32 years of service. Minnie married Valentine Rojas in San Angelo, TX and had Mary, Yolanda and Carlos Rojas. She later married Celestino Cortez in Hereford, TX and had Juanita, Patricia, Veronica and Celestino Jr.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and two sons, Celestino Cortez Jr. and Carlos Rojas, one sister Anita Gonzales, and two brothers Jesse Flores and George Flores.

Minnie is survived by 1 brother Ricardo Flores of Phoenix, AZ; 6 daughters, Mary Garza and husband Guadalupe of Holland, Michigan, Yolanda Matta of the home, Janie Cortez of Amarillo, TX, Patty Gonzales and husband Raul of Arlington, TX, Veronica Fonseca and husband Martin Jr. of Amarillo, TX and Diana Gallegos Rodriguez of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Esteban Garza, Rene Garza, Joe David Matta, Carlos Rojas Jr., Christopher Rojas, Reyna Munoz, Leslie Jackson, Daniel Aguirre, Tricia Renea Moreno, Nicolas Jack Fonseca and Celestino Cortez III, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
