Obituary

Services for Nancy Evelyn “Mop” Farrar, 100, will follow her wishes with a small, private ceremony for immediate family. A celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date.

Nancy Evelyn (née Brantley) Farrar passed on September 20th, 2026. She was born on January 1st, 1926, in New Moore, TX, to Grover Cleveland and Hattie Biddle (née Thomas) Brantley. Nancy moved with her family to Tokio community in 1929 where she attended school, church, and milked neighbors’ cows to make extra money. She later transferred to Brownfield High School where she graduated in 1943. During her time working in the orange groves of California, she and Vernon Farrar were married on the 16th of November 1946, in Visalia, California. The couple moved back to West Texas and settled south of Brownfield. In 1954 the family moved five miles north of Brownfield on the Levelland Highway. In 1964 they built a new home near the same location. Nancy lived and worked there as a mother and farmer’s wife, until the passing of Vernon in 1989. She moved to Harris St. in Brownfield and attended Calvary Baptist Church until 2019 when she entered assisted living. Nancy also enjoyed attending musicals across West Texas. She loved to listen to live music and dance, especially Marty Robbins.

Throughout the entirety of her life, God and Family were the most important factors shaping Nancy’s life. As the “bonus child,” 10 years younger than her next oldest sibling, she was doted on by the entire family. She was sometimes fond of saying she had three fathers and two mothers looking over her. Her devotion to family was demonstrated by frequent visits and phone calls with relatives of close, and more distant relations. Many of her most fond memories were of trips with family. She and her sister, Ozell, were best friends and would spend hours talking and giggling like schoolgirls. Nancy also loved her time with extended family. The stories she enjoyed telling and retelling often involved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her greatest familial devotion was reserved for her son and two grandsons. “Mop”, as she was called by much of her family and their friends, loved to cook for her boys and anyone they might bring along. Staying the night at Mop’s house was a frequent treat for her grandsons, especially when there were fried potatoes… and there were ALWAYS fried potatoes. In later years, Mop reveled in her time as a great-grandmother. Those closest to her will always know, she loved us “mostest.”

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Farrar, her parents, who she called Mama (Hattie Biddle Brantley) and Papa (G.C. Brantley), her brothers Avon Brantley and Everett Brantley, and her sister Ozell Prather.

She is survived by her son, Vernon Lamon (Mony) Farrar and wife Melinda of Lubbock; her two grandsons, Blake Farrar and wife Katie of Buda, Texas, along with Brant Farrar and wife Sonnet; two bonus grandchildren, Jennifer Mulkey of Lubbock and Jeremy Toney of Austin; in addition to her great-grandchildren: Adaleine, Laily, Van, Kyler, Ryker, and Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kendrick Memorial Library or Calvary Baptist Church.
