Phil Raynor Young August 16, 1935 - June 8, 2026

Phil Raynor Young, 90, departed this life to rejoin his family on June 8, 2026. He was born on August 16, 1935, in Anson, Texas to Carrel Melvin Young and Frances Laura (Westmoreland) Young, both preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gaylon Young.

Phil attended Brownfield schools and obtained his GED while serving in the US Navy from 1956 until 1959. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in the Pacific during this time and was based in California. He was very proud of his navy service. On December 1, 1960, he married his wife of 66 years, Jerry Ann Young, who passed away on April 10, 2026. Together they had one son, Zane, born in December 1965, who survives them.

Phil retired in 1998 from Evans Electric in Wichita Falls, Texas and had previously worked for other companies such as Goodyear, GH Foster, Kerr-McGee, and Pioneer Natural Gas. After retirement, Phil eventually moved back to Brownfield to care for his mother where he remained on the family farm until his death.

Phil was known for his good humor and always willing to pass along a joke to his friends. He will be missed by his extended and chosen family and close friends that remain.

Services are under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home, Brownfield, Texas. Interment will be at Terry County Memorial Cemetery, Brownfield. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, please consider a donation to the South Plains Area Food Bank as Phil was a frequent giver to that charity or a food bank/pantry of your choice. https://www.spfb.org
