Rita Muldrow

Graveside Service for Rita Muldrow will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating.

Rita Muldrow was born in Lubbock, Texas, on August 24, 1941, to Mollie and Grady Goodpasture and grew up in Brownfield, Texas.

She was an excellent student who even competed in the National Spelling Bee when she was young. As a child she enjoyed pitching for her softball team and was a prolific reader. Rita was also a talented musician who became an all-state clarinetist in high school, in addition to being a twirler.

After high school, Rita attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. After graduating with a degree in literature, Rita began graduate studies in business administration at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, but left school after a year to marry Ken Muldrow of Brownfield, whom she had known since first grade.

Immediately after marrying in Brownfield on October 10, 1964, Rita and Ken moved to Fort Lewis in Olympia, Washington, where Ken attained the rank of captain.

They returned to Brownfield in 1966, when Ken went to work for Goodpasture, Inc.

Rita enjoyed traveling all over the world throughout her life and visited most of the world’s continents. She frequently joined her husband at the helm of planes, serving as copilot, but spent much of her time reading novels, especially mysteries, and was a master of solving puzzles.

Rita’s studies at the University of Colorado included learning Middle English, which she amazingly was able to speak throughout her life. Watching football also was one of passions, and she would enjoy spending time at games with friends and family, fleeing the room anytime she felt she was “bad luck” for her favorite team.

She enjoyed long walks, visiting with her neighbors along the way, and would frequently send phone screenshots to her children documenting the many miles she would walk. She recently passed 10,000 miles.

Rita is survived by son Grady Muldrow and his wife, Molley; daughter Tara Muldrow and her husband, Bob Sechler; and daughter Megan Dorfner and her husband, Aaron. She is also survived by grandchildren Alex and Oscar Muldrow, Hudson and Grant Sechler, and Gavin and Reese Dorfner.
