Thomas passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 20, 1939, and lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep commitment to those around him. Known as a man who could fix anything, he was always the first to lend a helping hand—whether to family, friends, or neighbors in need.
In his early years, Thomas traveled across the United States installing irrigation systems for farms, developing a lifelong connection to agriculture and the people who make their living from the land. He spent the majority of his career with Tri-Matic, Inc., where he eventually served as Parts Manager. In that role, he became a trusted resource to farmers across the South Plains, helping them troubleshoot and solve irrigation challenges with both expertise and patience.
Thomas had a quick wit and an infectious laugh that often arrived before the punchline of his jokes. He was a masterful storyteller, captivating anyone fortunate enough to listen, and leaving behind countless memories filled with humor and heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Larae, the love of his life. He also leaves behind four daughters: Debra Dunkerson (Gary), Brenda Hopper, Karla Dill (David), and Belinda Bales (Marshall). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren—Eric, Erin, Josh, John Mark, Amy, Evan, Brent, Teague, and Tatum—who lovingly knew him as “Grandaddy,” as well as 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Thomas will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering support for others will live on in all who knew and loved him.
